FIRST THINGS FIRST: DOWNLOAD YOUR PAPERWORK!
Application for Membership (includes waivers of liability that must be signed before you practice with MRD)
MRD Handbook (everything you want to know about MRD and more)
MRD Mission Statement (what kind of organization are you joining)
Frequently Asked Questions (if you can’t find your answer here, go to our discussion board on Facebook)
THEN:
STEP ONE: If at all possible, join us for a Sunday practice (with or without skates) or a Wednesday happy hour meeting. We’ll provide you with all the paperwork and answer any questions you may have.
STEP TWO: Join the Yahoo group – marfarollerderby. When you first join you’ll be emailed the paperwork that is necessary before your first practice, so if you were not able to accomplish STEP ONE, you can start here. You’ll need to turn this paperwork into to an officer – Mercer, Yvonne, Chrissie or Cat. Note that all waivers and the membership application must be signed before you can skate with the group!!!
STEP THREE: Once you are a member of the Yahoo group, you need to go to the field called Databases and fill in your contact information in the appropriate spreadsheet.
STEP FOUR: Join the Facebook group – MARFA ROLLER DERBY – if you are so inclined. This is not a requisite venue, but things are posted there occasionally (videos, photos, etc.) that you may want to see.
STEP FIVE: Review the equipment requirements and start acquiring your equipment. First things first, you need skates, but it is highly suggested that you prioritize wrist guards if you are on a budget. Finally, buy kneepads, elbow pads and a helmet and you’ll be geared up and ready to skate.
STEP SIX: Pay your quarterly dues. Due dates are July 1, November 1 and February 1, April 1.
STEP SEVEN: Participate! Come to practices, make the meetings, attend events and fundraisers, join a committee, volunteer your special skill/s and pay your dues.
STEP EIGHT: Invite a friend. If you know a woman 18 years of age or older in the tri-county area who is interested in roller derby or just wants to spend time exercising and making friends, bring her along to a meeting or practice!
